-made it easier for the enemies of the PG to criticise them

-focused on gaining support of workers in the city

*opposed-disaster-result in national slaughter

*others saw it as a war of national defence against German aggression

-small party

-anti war

*brought them increasingly close to the Bolsheviks

Position of the Bolsheviks in 1917

-want to recruit as many members as possible

-direct propaganda at both workers in cities and the poor

*combination- carry out bourgeois democratic revolution

-opposed WW1- result in slaughter of working class

-argued for the policy of 'revolutionary defeatism'- encouragin their supporters to join the army so they could persuade the soldiers to turn their guns on their officiers and bring war to a halt

-understand why they can't just pull out of war (invasions)
