Aim: To replicate the Strange Situation.
Method: Conducted a study in Italy to see whether the proportions of babies of different attachment types matched those found in previous studies. Researchers assessed 76, 12-month-olds using strange situation.
Results: Researchers found 50% were secure with 36% insecure-avoidant. This is a lower rate of attachment that has been found in many studies. Researchers suggest this is because more mothers of young children are now working long hours and use professional childcare.
Conclusion: Findings suggest cultural changes make dramatic differences to patterns of secure and insecure attachment.
