Sexual selection & HRB

An evolutionary explanation for partner preference, suggesting that certain characteristics are beneficial to survival and may increase reproductive success.

Women:

- Big b r e a s t s  - for breastfeeding

- Small waist & wide hips - makes it easier to carry & deliver babies

- Blonde hair, wide eyes - a sign of youth

Men:

Strong arms: can deliver food & protect women during pregnancy

Tall: women feel more protected

Body hair & wide defined jawline: shows masculinity & sign of high testosterone - good for when a woman is feeling vulnerable

Refers to how men & women behave sexually.

Sperm are small, mobile as it leaves the man-body quickly, created and available continuously from puberty to old age, need very little energy.

Eggs are large, static and move very slowly, created before birth and with limited availability, need a vast amount of energy​.

Women will be much pickier than men - they prefer to get to know potential suitors to have sex with. Whereas men are less picky and prefer quantity over quality - less likely to get in a monogamous relationship.
