Ella Fitzgerald and how she came to success

About Ella Fitzgerald.

- 1934, performed in many talent shows where Chick Webb hired her where she got to perform at the Harlem Savoy Ballroom weekly

-1938, first hit 'A tisket a tasket' which sold 1 million copies and stayed top of the charts for 17 weeks she was famous 

-1939- Chick Webb died and she became the first vocal bandleader- had never been done before. The badn was called Ella F and her famous band.

BIG BREAK

1946, Whilst on tour with Dizzie Gillespie she met Norman Granz who hired her for the Jazz Philarmonic concert series.

She enjoyed many years of sucess with Norman and he founded Verve records for her in 1956.

- Here they recorded the Cole porter songbook which was the first LP  format. Norman stayed with Ella after he sold the company in 1959. And she appeared on many Tv shows incl Bing Crosby Show.
