Separating Techniques

CHROMOTOGRAPHY

Used to separate mixtures. Paper chromotography is used to separate dyes.

DISTILLATION

used to separate out solutions like obtaining pure water from seawater.

FRACTIONAL DISTILLATION

Used to separate a mixture of liquids. The mixtures arent joined together.  The liquid with the lowest boiling point will evaporate first and condense into tube first.  Used to separate crude oil.

FILTRATION

Used to separate an insoluble solid from a liquid e.g water and sand

CRYSTALLISATION

Used to separate a soluble solid from a solution.  E.g Rock salt.
