Snowball sampling

-Often used when you want to find a group of people with something in common but might not want to be found or the information isn't in a clear place

-Consists of finding one member of the group and asking them if they know anyone else who would take part and those people asking more people

-Easy access

-Could be bias

-Not representative

Random sampling

-Every member of the population has a chance of being chosen

-Involves identifying the target population and selecting number of participants needed in a way that gives everyone an equal chance

-Avoids bias

-Not the best representation

Systematic sampling

-Number participants in the sampling (1,2,3) and pick participants at every set interval (eg: every number 2)

-Avoids bias

-May get patterns

-Not that representative

Stratified random sampling

-Involves classifying the population into categories and choosing a sample consisting of participants from each category in the same proportion as they are in the population

-Representative

-Might not be able to find the right amount of people willing to do it

Quota sampling

-Classifying people into categories and asking people who fit into those categories to be in those categories in your experiment. When you have the right proportion, stop recruiting in those categories

-Representative

-Quick

-The small sample means its harder to apply to wider society
