In attempt to improve things the Tsar put himself in charge of the militray. However, he lacked military experience so made the situation even worse. Over 15 million men had left Russia to join the army but this left fields, mines, and factories without any workers. Along with Russia's poor infastruture led to food and fuel shortages. By 1916, over 1 million Russians had been killed in war whilst others starved to death at home. 1 of 4 Revolutions In 1917, there were riots and strikes across Russia. The soldiers who were ordered to fire on them, some joined them instead. On the front line, soldiers mutinated and desserted. The Petrograd Soviet, was established to co-ordinate a full scale revoulotion. With no support, the Tsar abdicated on the 15th March. A provisinal goverenment was established but the war continued so after another serious defeat thousands of soldiers desserted. In October 1917, the Bolsheviks, overthrew the government and promised to end the war quickly. 2 of 4 Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, 1918 Russians signed the treaty in March 1918 with Germany and its allies. This allowed Russia to withdraw from the war by giving huge amounts of land to Germany. Most of this Land was its best agricultrual land and its best natural resources. 3 of 4 Impact of the Russia withdrawal Britian and France were furious with Russia as this broke pre-war treaties. This also led to Germany only having to fight on one front. The Germans immeditaly moved their troops from the Eastern Front to the Western Front. The land and resources Germany gained helped with thier problems caused by the British Blockade. 4 of 4
