Believing in God

  • AGNOSTICISMUNSURE about beliefe in God
  • ATHEISM - do NOT believe in God
  • THEISMDO believe in God
  • CONVERSION - when life changes by giving yourself to God
  • NUMINOUS - feeling of a presence greater than yourself
  • OMNI-BENEVOLENT- belief that God ia all-loving
  • OMNI-SCIENT - belief that God is all-knowing
  • OMNI-POTENT- the belief that God is all powerful
  • CAUSATION - belief that everything happens for a reason
  • DESIGN - the idea that God designed the world
  • MIRACLE - an event which seems to break the laws of scienceand nature therefore only God could have done it.

Matters of life and death

  • ASSISTED SUICIDE - proving a seriously ill person with the means to commit suicide
  • EUTHANASIA - the painless killing of someone dying of a painful disease
  • IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL - the idea that the soul lives on even after the death of the body
  • NON-VOLUNTARY EUTHANASIA - ending someones life painlessly when they are unable to ask, but you have good reason for thinking they would want you to do so
  • RESURRECTION- the belief that after death the body stays in the ground until the last day when it is raised
  • QUALITY OF LIFE - the idea that life must have some benefits for it to be worth living
  • NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE - when someone close to death has an out-of-body experience.

Marriage and the family

  • CIVIL PARTNERSHIP - a legal ceremony giving a homosexual couple the same rights as a husband and wife
  • COHABITATION - living together without being married
  • NUCLEAR FAMILY - Mother. father, and children living together as a unit
  • RECONSTITUTED FAMILY - where two sets fo children become one family when their divorced parents marry.
  • ADULTERY - a sexual act between a married person and someone other than their marriage partner
  • FAITHFULNESS - staying with your marriage partner and having sex with only them

Islam key words:

  • IDDAH- the waiting period between asking for a divorce and it being finalised
  • UMAH - the worldwide muslim community

Cmmunity cohesion

  • MULTI-ETHNIC SOCITY - many different races and cultures living together in one society
  • PREJUDICE - the belief taht certain people are inferior or superior without knowing them
  • COMMUNITY COHESION - a common ision and shared sense of belonging for all groups in society
  • RACIAL HARMONY - different ethnic groups living together in peaceful harmony
  • RELIGIOUS FREEDOM - the right to practise and change your religion
  • INTER-FAITH MARRIAGES - marriage between a husband and wife of different cultures/religions
  • RELIGIOUS PLURALISM - accepting all religions and having equal rights to co-exist.
