1) “Sin”means deliberate immoral action which breaks a religious, moral or state law. For example, murder is a sin because it is an immoral action undertaken consciously by the perpetrator and is forbade by “Thou shalt not kill” Exodus 20:13 and the law.

2) I believe that the death penalty should be used for proven perpetrators of the worst crimes, such as murder. This costs over £45,000 less than keeping them in prison for only 1 year, protects society by removing them from it and gets retribution by punishing them and taking away their right to live as they have done to others.

However, a Christian may disagree as they would say that the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” (Exodus 20:13) also applies to the state, and that instead we should try to reform people and lead them on the right path to God’s forgiveness. However, some Christians may say that capital punishment upholds the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” as it shows the seriousness of this crime and deters others from disobeying it.
