Romeo Montague

  • Thought he was in love with Rosaline, ('out of her favour where i am in love')-but then met Juliet at the Capulet's ball ('O, she doth the torches to burn bright').
  • He proclaims his love for Juliet under her balcony                                  ('With love's light wings did I o'er-perch these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do that dares love attempt; Therefore thy kinsmen are no let to me.').
  • They get married secretly by Friar Laurence who thinks it may help the feuding families ('For this alliance may so happy prove / To turn your households rancour to pure love').
  • He kills Tybalt in a duel after Tybalt killed Mercutio-Romeo's friend- and is banished from Verona. ('O I am fortunes fool')
  • He returns to Verona not realising Juliet is not actually dead ('Come, cordial and not poison- go with me/ To Juliet's grave, for there must I use thee')
  • Romeo kills Paris on way to Juliet.
  • He kills himself with a poison and dies next to Juliet. ('...I still will stay with thee, And never from this palace of dim night, Depart again.')
