Cognitive neuroscience

Cognitive neuroscience aims to find out how the brain structures influence the way we process information and map mental cognitive functions to specific areas of the brain.

This is done using brain imaging techniques such as fMRI and PET scans.

Paul Broca found out that any damage to the frontal lobe can permanently impair speech production.

  • Scientists are now able to observe and describe the neurological basis of mental processing, through the advancement of brain imaging techniques such as MRIs and PET scans.

  • The focus of cognitive neuroscience has expanded recently to include the use of computer-generated models that are designed to ’read’ the brain; this has led to the development of mind mapping techniques known as “brain fingerprinting”.
