Renewable energy sources.

?

Solar Energy

Detail

Solar energy is harvesting sunlight usually using solar panels to convert the sunlight into electricity.

Advantages

  • No pollution
  • Very useful
  • Potential infinite energy supply

Disadvantages

  • Cost a lot
  • Unsightly
  • Implementation are expensive

Wind Energy

Detail

In the wind turbine, the wind turns the blade, that spins a shaft, which connects to a generator, to make electricity.

Advantages

  • Creates a lot of energy
  • Cheapest way to make energy
  • Running costs are low

Disadvantages

  • Very noisy
  • Manufacture and implemation are costly
  • Initial costs are high

Tidal Energy

Detail

Can be produced where fast flowing tides enter river estuaries (mouths). Made by water turning a turbine in a dam.

Advantages

  • Cheap
  • No waste
  • Energy prediction

Disadvantages

  • Affects environment
  • affects wildlife
  • only a few estuaries are suitable.

Biomass Energy

Detail

Bio energy comes from living things e.g wood is a bio mass fuel, but will only be suitable if we replant the trees. Uses decaying animal waste to create electricity too.

Advantages

  • Very cheap
  • Helps to get rid of waste
  • If replaces bio mass can be a long-term sustainable energy source.

Disadvantages

  • When burned gievs atmospheric pollutants
  • Produces waste
  • Is only a renewable resource if crops are replanted

Geothermal Energy

Details

Cold water is pumped down and hits hot rocks under the ground and then the stea risees to make a generator work, then create electricity.

Advantages

  • Potentially an infite energy supply
  • No pollution
  • Very low running costs

Disadvantages

  • Expensive
  • Very few places where it is possible
  • Dangerous subsequences can come out

Hydro-electric Energy

Details

Energy harnessed by the movement of water thrught rivers, lakes and dams.

Advantages

  • Doesn't cause pollution
  • No fuel costs
  • will never run out unless severe drought.

Disadvantages

  • Expensive
  • Land is spoiled
  • Can cause flooding

Wave Energy

Details

The movement of seawater in and ot of captivity on the shore. Works by fixing A Limpet on the sea shore.

Advantages

  • Ideal for an island country
  • once constructed running costs are low
  • More likely to be a local operation

Disadvantages

  • Very noisy
  • Construction is costly
  • May be opposed by onvironmental groups
