Key Terms

The Miracle of Life- the idea that life is wonderful, amazing or special 

Blessing-The idea that god has favored a couple with a child

The Sancity of Life- life is sacred because it is god given

Abortion- the deliberate termination (ending) of a pregnancy, usually before the foetus is 24 weeks and viable. 

Viable- The baby has a good chance of survival outside the worm

The Two Veiws of when Birth Begins

Conception is when the sperm meets the egg:  

People believe this is when life begins because it's when new beings DNA is fixed with all the information needed to make a unique individual.

When a baby is viable is it the point at which a foetus could survive if it were to be born:

People believe this is when life begins because as it has a chance of surviving outside the womb.

Abortion and the Law

In England, Scotland and Wales, under the 1967 Abortion Act and the 1990 Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act aborting is permitted if 2 doctors agree if one of the following conditions apply:

-The woman might die unless the pregnancy is ended

-There is a substantial risk of the baby being born severely physically or mentally disabled

-There is a risk to the woman's physical or mental health

-There is a risk to the physical or mental health of her existing children

Arguements For Abortion

 Pro-choice- In favour of abortion  

-Its the womans right to choose to have a baby

-Adoption is emotionally hard for the parents

-The mothers health is more important

-It is cruel bringing up a handicapped child

-If abortion is forbidded, dangerous illegal abortions will return

Arguements Against Abortion

Pro-life- Opposed of abortion 

-The unborn child is a seprate human being with feelings and intelligance so it is murder

-They can be adopted

-Abortion can leave mental and physical scars 

-Disabled children can live a happy fulfilled life

-It can be used selfishly insteed of contraception
