Introduction - Explain Moral Relativism

  • No objective rule. It is subjective, depends on the case
  • Opposite to absolutism
  • Depends on society, culture and people's own views
  • Extremist relativists think any action can be justified moral

 

Example:

  • Murder or manslaughter can be justified if in situations like self defence

Teleological

  • Teleological = Concerned primarily on the moral consequences of an action

Example:

  • Relativists may accept abortion if the foetus was going to have a poor quality of life
  • Absolutists would primarily be morally concerned with the act of aborting a foetus
