The National Park services

The National Parks in the UK have 3 main aims:

  • To protect wildlife and the natural beauty of the parks
  • To help people to enjoy the National Parks
  • To help to promote the economic and social well-being of the country

The services that all National Parks in the UK try to provide are:

  • tourist facilities
  • encouragement of tree planting
  • give advice to land users
  • arrange tourist talks and nature walks
  • mark out foot paths
  • buying land in order to protect it
  • to monitor pollution and clean as much as they can
  • provide nature information services
  • refuse permission to have unsuitable buildings on National Parks
  • encourage suitable developments

Why does the Lake District attract tourists?

  • it has attractive scemery
  • there is a variety of things to do
  • easy to access eg via the M6
  • near densly populated areas such as Manchester
