Ratio

Example: A piece of worrd is 180 cm long.
Tom cuts in into 3 pieces in the ratio 2:3:4

Work out the length of the longest piece.

Step 1. Add the ratios together.
2 + 3 + 4 = 9

Step 2. Divide the whole length by the total of the ratios.
180 / 9 = 20

Step 3. Times each individual ratio by the answer you got previously.
2 x 20 = 40
3 x 20 = 60
4 x 20 = 80

Therefore the length of the longets piece is 80cm
