Rates of reaction

Frequency of collisions increases due:

  • Adding a small change in temperature in order to have a large effect on the rate of reaction (and energy of the particles)
  • Reactions in solutions go faster at higher concentration because .... (see title)
  • Increasing the pressure increases the rate of a reaction of two gases because ... (see title). (and there are more molecules in the same volume).

Rate of reaction = amount of reactant used OR amount of product formed

                                    time                                          time

Activation energy = Minimum amount of energy that particles must have in order to react.

Factors that increase rate of a reaction: Temperature. Surface area of solids. Using a cataylst (because a cataylst speeds up reactions).
