Solve Quadratics by Factorising

Difference of two squares
a2 - b2 = (a+b)(a-b)

?

Quadratics - Difficult Factorising

1. multiply a andc (6 x 4) = 24 and find the two numbers whose product is 24 and whose sum is 11.

x = 24 + = 11

2. these are 3 and 8

3. re-write the expressions splitting the bx term into two componnts using there factors

4. factories in pairs taking the HCF of each

5. The factor in bracets is common to both.

                           6x2 + 11x + 4

                 6x2 + 3x    +       8x + 4

               3x(2x+1)      +        4(2x+1)

                          (2x+1) (3x+4)
