Aim: To assess the capacity of STM using a serial recall test
Procedure:
- the reading speed of Ps was measured
- Ps were then shown sets of 5 words on a screen
- Words were taken from one of 2 sets - one sylable or polysyllabic
- Ps were asked to write down the 5 words in serial order - recalled several lists of both long and short words
Findings:
- Ps could recall far more short words than long - able to recall as many words as they could say in about 2 seconds
