To examine the positive effects of day acre on a child's social dev.
Shea videotaped 3&4 children in a playground during thier first 10 weeks of nursery school
He assesed the childrens level of sociability using 5 criteria: Agression, rough and tumble play, frequency of peer interation, distance from teacher, distance from nearest child .
and found that:
children became increasingly social overtime
decrease in the distance from the teacher
decrease in aggresion
increase in rough and tumble play
increse in peer interactions
increase in the social dev. were greater in those who attended 5 days a week, suggesting day care increases the rate of social dev.
Shea concluded that day care at a nursery has a positive effect on a child's social dev.
