OPERANT CONDITIONING

  • Suggests AN is reinforced through pos and neg reinforcement 
  • POS: compliments 
  • NEG: getting rid of anxiety about gaining weight  
  • It's also thought AN is adopted through vicarious reinforcement
  • People may develop AN by observing an imitating the behaviour of someone they may see as a role model 
  • Indivi may observe the pos consquences of someone losing weight and begin doing it themselves suggesting AN is a learnt behaviour

  • Research has suggested that AN is more likely to occur in cultures that are more judgemental about self apperance
