What do they do?

  • Then gets 'response' from web server
  • Fianlly, displays webpage in browser

What does it do?

Controls sending emails

  • It pushes messages to email servers
  • Servers 'store and forward' emails

Post Office Protocol

What does it do?

Controls recieving email

  • It pulls messages from email servers
  • Downloads them to user's device

What does it do?

Controls transfer of files

  • Special FTP software allows users to upload and download from servers

Simple Network Mangement Protocol

What do they do?

Checks devices on a network

  • Used by IT technicians for network management
  • Gives IT them lots of commands to check problems e.g. dodgy printer

ICMP

Internet Control Message Protocol

What do they do?

Checks packet delievery on a network

  • Used by devices such as routers to send error messages when packets cannot be delivered.
