Participants: The study involved 2664 male US navy personnel including 125 offlicers and 96 personnel staff on 3 navy cruisers. This included all navy grades with different amounts of experience and education. The mean age was 22.3 years.
An opportunity sample was used by giving out questionnaires which were completed by 90-97% of the sample.
Procedures: Participants were asked to complete a military version of the SRE every 6 months over a period of two years. This was a self administered questionnaire.
