Prehistoric - Exam Question

Briefly describe the methods used by people in Prehistoric times to treat illness (5)

Pehistoric people used mainly common-sense methods to treat day-to-day illness. They would make wooden splints for broken bones or mud to stop those bones from moving. Herbs were a very important part of their treatments and they used many different herbs, which grew near to where they lived, to treat illness. An example of this is willow, which they probably used as a painkiller. If an illness did not improve then they would use supernatural methods because they believed that the loss of a spirit could make people ill. The supernatural treatments they used included using chanting to make a bad spirit leave or, as a last resort, trephining, which meant cutting the head open to release the evil spirit.
