Poetry terms

Alliteration - repetion of sound of letter at beginning of word

Assonance - repetion of sound of vowel in middle of word

Personfication - giving human attributes to inanimate objects

Hyperbole - Dramatic language, exaggerated

Onomatopoeia - Words that sound like what they mean (whistle, crash, etc)

Metaphor - Replacement of one object with another for imaginative purposes (e.g. falling leaves/falling soliders)

Simile - imply something is like something else (like/as)

Juxtaposition - placing words side by side that clash (love, hate)
