Work by a force (joules) = Force (N) * Distance moved by the force (m)
Change in GPE (joules) = Weight (N) * Vertical height difference (m)
An object, when dropped loses GPE (joules) and gains the same amount of Kinetic energy (joules).
Using the KE you can fid the velocity of a falling object using the formula:
Example-
KE = 0.5 * Mass (kg) * Velocity ^ 2 (m/s)
100 = 0.5 * 2 * V ^ 2
100 = V ^ 2
V = (Square root of) 100
= 10
