Collecting Energy from the Sun.

The sun is a stable source of Energy, and provides Earth with light and heat.

PHOTOCELLS= Capture light energy from the Sun, on flat silicon surfaces. The light energy is then transformed into and electric current which travels in the same direction all the time. (DC CURRENT.)

- Disadvantages; Cost alot of money, Don't work when there is no light.

- Advantages; No need for fuel, No pollution, No long cables.

SUN = RENEWABLE SOURCE OF ENERGY BECAUSE IT WILL NOT RUN OUT.

How light produces Electricity in a photocell; The light energy is absorbed by the photocell causing electrons to come out of the silicon atoms in the crystals. These Electrons flow freely within the silicon.

Collecting Energy from the Sun continued

The power of a photocell depends on...

The Surface area exposed to light.

The intensity of the light.

Passive Solar Heating traps energy from the sun but doesn't distribute the energy or change it into another form of energy.
