Christianity- quakers are pacifists

there were wars in the old testemant

jesus never said war was wrong but said "pray for your enemies", "blessed are the peacemakers", "turn the other cheek", "those who fight by the swrod will doe by the sword"

Islam- Islam means peace

allah commanded everyone live in peace

must treat wounded enemies same way as other muslims,

muhammad fought in wars so can follow his example 

can defend islam by fighting

Jesus is described as a pacifist. 

Just war- conducted according to certain conditions.

must be fought by a legal recognised authority

cause of  war must be just

must be a reasonable chance of success

must be a last resort

civilians must not be involved

Proportionality 

innocents protected

authorised by muslim society

just cause

aim to restore peace

trees, crops, animals protected

ended as soon as enemy lay down their arms

Martin Luther King- influenced by jesus, used non- violent protests to support civil rights for black americans. Awarded Nobel Peace in 1964.

United nations- founded in 1945, encourages nations to work together  to keep peace&security

Interfaith Dialogue- an opportunity for religions to talk to each other to learn to respect their differnces and bond
