Peace and Justice- key words

Criminals= ppl who have committed a crime.

Conscientious objectors= Someone follows conscience + does not go to war.

Holy war= War fought in the name of God.

Justice= fair treatment.

Just war= A war that has fair rules. 

Pacifism= disagrees against all types of violence.

Socia injustice= unfair treatment in society. 

War= a violent conflict between groups or nations.

Types of war= holy war, world war, civil war. 

Why go to war? For oil, self-defence, in name of God, to protect others, for territory. 

For= 'The lord is a warrior', 'prepare for war', 'eye for an eye', 'whoever sheds the blood of man by man may his blood be shed'

Against= 'do not murder', God hates 'hands that shed innocent blood', 'those who live by the sword die by the sword', 'turn the other cheek', 'love you enemies', 'pray for those who persecute you'. 

JUST WAR=

Peace and Justice- pacifism

C for= 'turn the other cheek', 'love you enemies' 'pray for those who persecute you' 'love one another' 'love thy neighbour', sanctity of life, agape.  'Blessed are the peace makers'. 

C against= Jesus used violence, 'the lord is a warrior', 'prepare for war!', 'whoever sheds the blood of man, by man may his blood be shed', 'eye for an eye'. 

MLK= non-violent protests e.g. bus boycott. Oscar Romero= protested publicly against corrupt rulers, sent letters. 

Peace organisations= United nations.

SOCIAL INJUSTICE= 

e.g. sexism, racism, bullying. Christian responses= protest peacefully, boycotts, set an example, campaign, volunteer for charities e.g. Amnesty

'God has no favourites', 'if you oppress poor people, you insult the God who amde them', 'Love thy neighbour', agape.

Peace and Justice- Criminals.

Punishments= fine, probation, prison sentence, corporal punishment, capital punishment. Capital punishment= death penalty.For- 'eye for an eye', 'whoever sheds the blood of man, by man may his blood be shed'. Against- 'do not kill', 'forgive not 7 times but 77 times' 'love your enemies'. 

Aims= deterence= discourages others and the same person committing crime. Authority= show others whose in charge. Protection= for society. Reform= to change them for better. Retribution= punishment for Vengence. 

Forgiveness= 'Forgive not 7 times but 77', 'be merciful just as your father is merciful', Jesus forgave on the crucifix.
