Health Related Fitness Components

Flexibility: The range of movement at a joint.

Test: Sit and Reach test.

Body composition: Relative percentage of muscle, fat, bone and other tissues of which the body is composed.

Test: Skin Fold Callipers.

Muscular Endurance: Ability of the muscles to work over a relatively long period of time without tiring.

Test: Sit up or Press up test.

Strength: Ability to exert an external force or lift a heavy weight.

Test: Explosive - Vertical jump ; Dynamic - Sit up or Press up ; Static - hand grip dynamometer.

Cardiovascular Endurance: Ability of the heart, blood vessels and blood to provide oxygen to muscles during a prolonged period of time.

Test: Multi-Stage Fitness Test or 12 Minute Cooper Run.

Skill Related Fitness Components

Speed: Rate an individual is able to perform a movement or cover a short distance in a short period of time.

Test: 35m Sprint.

Balance: Ability to hold pos.ture without wobbling or falling over.

Test: Stork Stand test.

Agility: Ability to change position/direction of the body quickly and to control the movement of the body.

Test: Illinois Agililty Run.

Co-ordination: Ability to use body parts together smoothly and accurately.

Test: Alternate Hand Wall Throw.

Power: Ability to strength performances quickly.

Test: Vertical Jump.

Reaction Time: The time difference between the presentation of a stimulus and the onset of a movement.

Test: Ruler Drop Test.
