Organisation

Cells ->Tissues->Organs->Organ Syste-> Organsism

Tissue- group of cells with similar structure and functions

Organ- group of tissues working together to peform a function

Organ Sysetm- group of organs working tigether to complete a certain function

Specialised Cells

Cells are differentiated, specilsed to carry out a certain function

Red Blood Cell

  • flatterned biconcave shape. Inceases SA:V
  • essential to role of trasnporting O2 around body
  • no nuclei or other organselles, more space for heamoglobin

Palisde Cell

  • in mesophyll, contain chloroplast cells to abssorb large amount of light for photosynthesis
  • rectangular shape- closely packed, continuos layer
  • thin cell wall, increasing rate of diffusion of carbon dioxide

Tissue

Four main catagories of tissue in animals:

1) Nervous Tissue- adapted to trasnmit electical impulses

2) Epithelial Tissue- adapted cover body surfaces int and ext

3) Muscle Tissue- adpated to contract

4) Connective Tissue- adapted to hold other tissues together/ transport medium

Several Different tissues in plants inc:

1) Epidermis- covering plant surfaces

2) Vascular- trasnport water and nutrients (xylem and phloem)

Tissue Examples

Ciliated Epithelium

  • hair like structure cillia, rhthmically move
  • lines trachea- mucas swept away
  • goblet cells also presence- release mucas to stop unwanted particles

Squamous Epithelium

  • very thin due to flat cells, one cell thick
  • present when rapid diffusion required
  • forms lining of lungs- oxygen into blood

Xylem Tissue

  • vascular tissue resp water and mineral transport
  • strengthened by lignin sturtural support
