Centioles

  • two small cylinders (made up of microtubules) right-angles to each other
  • Arrange spindle fibres in cell division (mitosis + miosis)

Microtubules

  • found in cytoplasm
  • made of tubulin protein
  • Make up the cytoskeleton and centrioles
  • Thought to be involved in transporting materials in cells
2 of 10

Lysomes

  • Vesicles containing strong hydrolytic enzymes
  • Destroys worn out organelles
  • Involved in death of cells
  • Made by golgi

Golgi

  • Stck of hollow cristernae with swollen ends
  • Vesicles are found around the ends/ edges of the cristernae
  • Involved in modification and packaging of proteins
  • (Makes Bubbly things)

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

  • Network of flattened cisternae
  • Manufacture and package lipids

(Does NOT have ribosomes)

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

  • Network of flattened cisternae (hollow sacks)
  • Have ribosomes around outside of cisternae
  • Often found attached to nulcear envelope
  • Where translation takes place (manufacture of polypeptide chains / proteins)

Carry out translation and from polypeptide chains

Mitochondrian

  • Has double membrane
  • Inner membrane folded into cristae
  • Inner space called Matrix
  • Carries out Aerobic Respiration
  • There are ribosomes and a DNA loop found in the Matrix

Nucleus

  • Has a double membrane with nuclear pores
  • separates the DNA from enzymes in the cytoplasm
  • usually found centrally and circular in animal cells

Nucleolus

  • Small area in the nucleus (not bounded by a membrane)
  • Makes rRNA which then form into ribosomes
