HideShow resource information

Endocrine gland: Secrete hormones into blood

Exocrine gland; Excrene substances into a duct to certain body parts

Hormone; Chemicals secreted by endocrine gland into blood

Target tissue: Tissue efected by hormones

1 of 2

First and Second Messengers

Hormones effect target cells by attaching to specific receptor molecules - cell signalling

Adrenaline is a first messenger that effects liver cells

Secreted by adrenal glands

Travels in blood to target tissue

Binds to receptor on plasma membrane on cell

Receptor alters shape to interact with G-protein inside cell.

G-protein binds with an enzyme then activates an emzyme to do ATP--> cAMP

Stimulates glycogen hydrolysis
