- Get participants to observe staged but “real” accident.
- Higher ecological validity – accounts for variables such as emotional response to situation.
- Harder to replicate so lower reliability.
- May not all have a clear view of incident. Reduce validity.
Effect to the results:
- Less participants reporting broken glass
- Less variation between verbs
- Less alteration of memories
- More accurate estimates of speed
