There are three types of peripherals: storage devices, inputdevices (which allows users to give instructions and input data into the device) and outputdevices (which allows the user to see or hear information after it has been processed).

Input devices
An input device allows users to put data into a device.
Mouse - pointing, moving around, selecting and inputting information
Keyboard - used to enter texts and numbers
Game controller - used for gaming
Webcam - inputs visual data (an image), this can either be a periperhal or in-built
Graphics tablet - used to input drawings
Touch screen - inputs information by either using your finger or a stylus.
Microphone - audio data is put into the device, either a peripheral or in-built
Scanner - digitalises hard copies of data and turns it into readable/editable text onto the computer.

Output devices
Output devices
An output device allows the user to see and/or hear information after it has been processed
Speakers/Headphones - a peripheral or in-built device, allows you to hear audio (speakers) and allows one person to hear audio (headphones)
Printer - allows you to produce a hard copy of digitalised documents
Screen - display screens (e.g. laptop, smartphone) or monitor
