· suggests that the 2 most influential aspects of a job are job demands & their decision latitude. High demands & low decisions latitude are singly viewed as causing strain, so the combination of those features is identified as particularly harmful. Wall et al (1996) considered Karasek's model & argued that main effects of job demands & decision latitude have often been found, but the predicted interaction between them has been less consistently demonstrated. They argue that most empirical tests of this interaction have been based on a general measure of decision latitude which includes a variety of job properties including control, task variety & learning opportunities. However, theoretically, it is control which is the key factor. They used more focused measures of demands & control & found clear evidence of the interaction.
