Behaviourist

Only nuture is acknowlaged but acknowlage fear of loud noises and falling but still determinatistic and nomothetic as it say everyone learns in the same way

Useful therapy (systematic desensitistion) and learning in school good for society

Building blocks of CBT

Research is generally done in lab setting so scientific

Scientfic backing and clear assumptions and supporting research and real world applications

Biological

Only nature no nuture. Too reductionist and deterministic Concordance rates in things like sz is not 100% for biology so needs both

Nomothetic as all treatments do not work for eeryone but allows us to treat evryne in a generalised day

Drug therapies and psychosurgery makes it useful but both have side effects 75% of mental health therapis include drugs but the others could also have talking therapies

Not al drugs have been made for mental health

Uses PET scans etc so scinetific so can not manipulate results but could report in certain way to make it bias

Respected feild and emprical backing but diathesis stress model backed by Raine, long established

Cognitive

Acknowlages both nature and nurture e.g. Atkinson and Shiffrin MSM (input from enviroment but processed by internal structures) supported by mostly case studies and reasearch e.g. HM and  Loftus and Plamer

Acknowlages individual differences e.g. different schemas
But assumes memory store is fixed

Less wrongful convictions e.g. inncence project

CBT is effective so useful but blame is fully in patient

Holistic e.g. looks at cognitive triad and nature + nurture

Free will as CBT moves at own pace and actively changing thinking process
Say people are effected by leading questions (assumed)

Scientific as it has research backing and in lab setting but unnatural findings lead to changes in society

Applied to real life issues and acknowlages both sides

Positive

Looks more at nurture but some evidence of nature
Mindfullness based on enviromental experiences

idiographic so can not be generalised but acknowlages individula differences

Mindfullness has not got enough research to say if it is usefull
But useful for some groups e.g. students

Free will acknowlaged

Not enough research as it is a novel area and  Myer + Diener was lit reveiw

Needs more research before it becomes credible

Psychodynamic

Nature Id and Ego and psychosexual stages of development which are nurtured into you

Idiogaphic as dream analysis is up to the person what they think the therapist simply provides potential answers

dream anyanysis can not be give for depression etc.

Sexist and no longer relavant in todays society

Places all blame on mother so reductionist and determinstic

Non-scientific methods (all unconscious)

Outdated so no longer relavant in todays society
