Niche Description

A NICHE is different to a habitat in that it is the role of a species in the habitat rather than where it lives.

This thus includes both...

  • It's biotic interactions e.g. what the species eats, and what it is eaten by.
  • It's abiotic interactions e.g. the oxygen the species breathes in, the carbon dioxide the species breathes out.

A niche is INDIVIDUAL to every species. If two species occupy the same niche, they will compete each other, with one being more successful.
