  • duration of STM is about 15 seconds
  • capacity is between 5 and 9 items of information remembered at once
  • information is passed to LTM through elaborative rehearsal
  • mainteinance rehearsal is used to keep a memory in STM, such as repeating a word verbally

  • information reaches LTM through elaborative rehearsal
  • 3rd memory store in msm
  • duration is unlimited, can last a lifetime
  • capacity is unlimited
  • information is encoded semantically but a little by visual and auditory
