Mitosis

Stage 1: (longest stage)

• The cells grow, increase in mass and carry out normal cell activities.
• They replicate their DNA to form 2 copies of each chromosome.
• They also increase their number of sub-cellular structures - e.g. mitochondria, ribosomes, and chloroplast.

Stage 2: Mitosis

• One set of chromosomes is pulled to each side dividing the cell.
• The nucleus divides.

Stage 3:

• The cytoplasm and the cell membrane divide.
• This forms two sister cells.
