• Tin is not toxic and does not corrode very rapidly making it ideal as protection for steel in food and drinks cans.
• easy to mix as an alloy with other metals i.e. steel 

Steel

• steel is lightweight 
• easily moulded
• used to make a range of food cans and most aerosol cans
• can be easily recycled
• ferrous metal so contains iron and is magnetic
• 51% of all steel is recycled
