DNA is replicated.
Creates 2 sisters chromatids.
Chromatids pair up and join at the centromere.

1 of 4

Division 1

Homologous Chromosomes pair up.

Crossing over.

Homologous pair separate, with 1 chromosome from each pair going into 1 of 2 daughter cells. (Haploid).

2 of 4

Division 2

Sister Chromatids move apart.

4 cells form.

Each with 23 chromosomes.

3 of 4

Genetic variation

Crossing over- Equivelent portions of chromatids may be exchanged.

Independant segregation- The random distribution and independant assortment of chromosomes
