Expressions, Equations and Identities

An Expression = contains letters and numbers but no equals sign

An Equation = contains an equals sign, terms in one letter and has numbers

An Identity = Has an equals sign and works with all numbers

Expanding Single and Double Brackets

To expand a single bracket:

  • Multiply each term inside the bracket by the term outside the bracket

To expand double brackets:

  • Use FOIL

Linear and Non-Linear Equations

Linear Equations = Equations which have no power/indices 

Non-Linear Equations = Equations that have powers/indices

Algebraic Indices

Multiplying Powers  = Add the indices

Dividing Powers = Subtract the indices

Powers in Brackets = Multiply the indices

This is a good explanation and example, but I am afraid that it is not enough to fully understand the topic and even more so to solve complex problems. I recommend https://plainmath.net/ which I use often. This resource has collected many solved examples and has many explanations for various topics in mathematics. I recommend it to all students, because I am satisfied with its use.
