Marxist feminist

Margret Benston argues that,  the family produces cheap labour through reproduction, and it maintain this labour at no cost of the employer. the wife has to keep the husband running in order to play his role as a wager earner. basically the woman has to make sure the man doesn't withdraw from his responsibilities  due to the capitalist system.

Ansley argues agains the Functionalist View, that the family's role is to stabilise adult personalities, she instead argues that, the family acts as a safety valve to make sure that frustrations don't erupt because of the capitalist system. this way the capitalist system is not threatened.therefore in this case women are the takers of ****!

cooper argues that the family is and ideological conditioning device by this she means that, it socialises children to accepting authority and learn to submit to it and conform to it as well, Feely argus, ideological conditioning has helped children accept their class situations.

Criticisms

  • Marxist feminist, talk about women as if they all go through the same situations, they have failed to consider the fact that there are different situations women from different situations go through..
  • they portray females as passive victims as if they have never advocated for any changes
  • they exaggerate the harm caused to women by the family, and they ignore the fact that some women do enjoy just having the family the way it is. they don't see it as harm
