Marriage and Divorce: Relationships within the family

"...a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh" Gen 2. God intended woman and man to marry.

"You shall not commit adultery" Ex 20

"then neither do i condemn you' Jesus declared, 'Go now and leave your life of sin' John 8. Jesus encourages forgiveness.

"Marriage is given, that husband and wife may comfort and help each other" Common Worship 2000

"Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord." Proverbs 18

"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4.

"Now as the church submits so Christ... so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything... In the same way...He who loves his wife loves himself" Ephesians 5

Suggests a wife should submit to her husband, but a man should love her in return.

"There is neither...male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus" Galatians 3
encourages equality.

"'This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called "woman", for she was taken out of a man'" Gen 2. Made in perfect harmony, equality.

Jesus chose only men to be his disciples...men as leaders women as supporters?

"whoever does not provide for his relatives...is worse than an unbeliever" 1 timothy 5

Annulment if marriage is proven to of never lawfully existed.

Protestant
"Anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress..." Matt 5. Jesus allows divorce for adultery.
