macromolecules

They are extremely large molecules formed by the linking up of smaller molecules.

unusable in original form - broken down into basic units using chemical and physical digestion - absorbed into blood cells - assimilation (cells use monomers to re-build polymers).

physical digestion- large particles get broken down into smaller particles (chewing, churning of the stomach).

monomer unit

A monomer unit is  chemically bonded to molecules to make a polymer.

polymers in food e.g. starch and glycogen- made from carbohydrate monomers.

proteins- also monomers- made from amino acid monomers.
