schoolboys are stranded on an island after a plane crash and left with no adults.
they have a meeting,called by the conch, and Ralph is elected leader despite Jack wanting the job.
Ralph, Jack and Simon explore. Jack nearly kills a piglet but is scared and hesistates, letting the piglet get away.
a littlun is scared about a beast he thinks he saw one night
Ralph uses Piggy's glasses to start a fire as a signal for other ships
the fire gets out of control leading to a boy dying
Ralph and Simon spends all their time building shelters but becomes annoyed when all the others boys do is hunt.
Jack and Ralph argue but soon make up
Simon goes to the forest alone

chapters 4-6 (hunting for food and the beast)
Ralph, Simon and Piggy see a ship but the hunters had let the fire go out. The ship doesn't notice them.
The hunters come back chanting for Jack has killed a pig.
Ralph and Jack argue about the fire and Jack hits Piggy breaking his glasses.
they act out the hunt. Maurice pretends to be the pig whilst the dance and chant.

A dead airman lands on the island and Sam and Eric see him and panic. They tell everyone they have seen the beast
the boys hunt for the beast and discover Castle Rock

chapters 7-9 (the group splits)
Ralph injures a pig while hunting. The boys re-enact the hunt leaving Roger slightly hurt.
Ralph, Roger and Jack climb the mountain when it was dark and see the dead airman. They think its the beast
Jack tries to become chief but fails. He forms his own tribe and boys slowly join him until only Ralph, Piggy, Sam, Eric and the littluns are left
Jack viciously kills a pig. They put the head on a stick as a offering for the beast
Simon finds the pigs head covered in flies. He thinks its talking to him. He finds the dead airman and goes back to tell the boys what the beast actually is.
Ralph and Piggy go to Jacks feast and join in the hunting dance. Simon stumbles into the middle of the dance and the tribe think he is the beast so they kill him.

chapters 10-12
Jacks tribe attack Ralph's group and steal Piggy's glasses for fire.
Ralph's group tries to get Piggy's glasses back but Sam and Eric are captured. Roger levers a rock off the cliff which kills Piggy.
The tribe begin to hunt Ralph who hides in the forest. He finds the Lord of the Fliies and destroys it.
Jack's tribe rolls boulders at the thicket Ralph was hiding in and lights a fire to smoke him out.
Ralph runs away and the tribe chase him. He runs into a naval officer whose ship saw the smoke from the fire. The boys start crying.
