Ethical Issues 5.1

Whistle Blowing

This is usually when an emlployee discloses that someform of seruous unlawful practice is taking place within their place of work. This includes miscarriages of justice, illegal activity, threats to individuals and/or damage to the environment. Whistle blowers are protected by UK law against any form of 'punishment' by their organisation, for e.g. unfair dismissal or not being promoted.

Disability/gender/sexuality discrimination

Behaving ethically can be underwritten by law; for e.g. the Equality Act (2010) ensures equality of treatment for all people, irrespective of colour, race, disablility or gender. These and other characateristics are classified as protected. Examples of discrimination could be people not recieving equal pay for the doing the same job because of their gender, disability and/or sexuality.
