Onomatopoeia - a word that sounds as it means (crash, bang)

Simile - when something is compared to something else (the sand writhed like a snake)

Hyperbole - over exaggeration

Assonance - repetition of a vowel sound (wind whistling silently)

Alliteration - repetition of the same first letter sound of a word (still silence)

Personification - giving something a human attribute (the angry sandstorm)

Metaphor - a metaphor is replacing one image with another for description (falling leaves/soldiers)
