Role

Covers a whole range of subjects, including accessibility. They are in place to ensure compliance with legislation.

Open Accessibility Framework (OAF)

Role

Provides a process for ensuring that IT systems are accessible. The framework is two categories - creation systems and use of systems, broken into steps.

  • Define 'accessible'
  • Provide user interface elements
  • Provide authoring tools

Use steps:

  • Provide platform supports
  • Provide accessible software
  • Provide assistive technologies.

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 an

Role

Defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to ensure web contect is accessble to all disabilities.

Relevance to IT systems

It defines three different levels for accessibility

Priority 1 is considered the minimum to allow users with diability to access a website.
